• I bought this book on a whim, hoping I found another series to occupy my time and interest. Emboldened by such great reviews, I purchased it, and I'm not entirely impressed. Keep in mind, I recently stepped out of the amazing world and skillful prose of Brian Staveley's series Chronicles of the Unhewn. I devoured Staveley's series and hoped Wheeler's books would bring me the same kind of satisfaction.
  
  Wheeler's Storm Glass is 100% written as a young adult fantasy book (fight me, because it is), which isn't an issue per se, but if I had known this, I would have not purchased it. The story and the concept of the mysteries were interesting, but the dialogue felt awkward more times than I was comfortable with, and I felt the writing lacked fluidity much of the time. I will not be buying the second book.
  
  I don't want to seem like I'm wholeheartedly bashing his work, many people enjoyed it. As a point of context, which I hope will prove helpful for those who have surveyed their work as well, I'm a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson, Brent Weeks, and Patrick Rothfuss (now Staveley, as well). Their works were paramount in my developing love and interest in fantasy (high and epic). I have also enjoyed Michael J. Sullivan and Douglis Hulick, though they too, had some awkward moments in their writing, but they didn't have that young adult fantasy diction and rudimentary environmental description that I found to dislike in Wheeler's book. I hope my mentioning some of my favorite authors gives you some illumination when you consider buying. I prefer their more developed and sophisticated writing style, as well as, their more complex plots to Wheeler's style, and I sincerely wish I would have read a review that mentioned these authors. It would have helped me in my decision making.
• Storm Glass is yet another excellent book by Jeff Wheeler. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy novel written with the feel of a period piece that is complete with hopes and dreams that are both dashed and realized. There are ghosts, science, magic, intrigue, floating manors, power struggles, mysteries, and, of course, a few unexpected twists. Storm Glass gets five stars from me because I felt immersed in the world and was able to relate to many of the characters on different levels. As both Cettie and Sera learn more about the world in which they live, my mind was racing—striving to make the same connections and understand the same mysteries that they were trying to understand. I felt keenly for the plight of both girls who, though they come from seemingly different worlds were both striving and yearning for freedom and knowledge.
  
  I enjoyed the differing perspectives and came up with many theories of my own as to why things happened the way that they did. Some were proven wrong, but as I read I felt a part of that world. As I neared the end of the book, I began to feel some tension (in a good way) that some of the issues wouldn’t be resolved by the end of the book. Knowing that it was going to be a five-book story arc, I worried that I would be left on a major cliffhanger. While I felt some things were resolved quite quickly at the very end, it was just enough resolution to create a sense of closure while leaving enough in the air (pun intended) that I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I felt that this book was written in crescendo. The further I read, the more exciting the story became.
  
  I found it a gripping story and I personally blame a good author for keeping me up too late at night when I should have been sleeping. I found the world a fun place to visit in my mind and contemplate its realities. I felt that virtually all of the characters were engaging and relatable in some way. While dealing with some heavier social issues that the protagonists were faced with, I still found it a fun read that kept my mind engaged as I tried to unravel some of the mysteries myself. At times I felt that if I could just figure some of the mysteries out, that it would somehow enable me to reach through the pages and help our protagonists.
  
  I commend Jeff Wheeler for another well written story that is different enough from his other books that it feels new and fresh, while maintaining a few familiar elements that connect his worlds. He masterfully unfolds new adventures through the eyes of two different protagonists while throwing in enough unexpected twists that make things come together in exciting ways. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to explore a new world with relatable characters, a touch of magic, and engaging mysteries.

• I have been looking forward to the arrival of this new work of Jeff Wheeler's, and it simply ended too soon. Of course, that's often the way with the first book in a trilogy. My only complaint is that one of my favorite fantasy authors has fast-tracked the conclusion here, and I felt that part of the story was missing. However, the conclusion stops short of being a contrived "deus ex machina" intervention, thank goodness.
  In his Kingfountain series, Wheeler did an amazing job of making the world of Kingfountain a part of his larger imagined universe, and many of the characters from all these separate realms move in and out of their boundaries to bring that series to a stunning resolution. The Harbinger series carries the first story out of the medieval milieu of Muirwood, Silverkin, and Mirrowen into a fragile, semi-steampunk Dickensian world of rigid class systems where the upper classes literally float above the lower dysfunctional world of poverty, filth, and degradation. The two young female protagonists are representatives of these antithetical environments and lifestyles, each living precariously in repressive environments that are a source of constant anxiety and isolation for the girls from those around them. When a series of betrayals threatens them both with even more dreadful fates than the ones they endure and stress over, they are unexpectedly moved to another realm where they discover a kinship with each other in a place where we are given to expect that a strong friendship will likely develop in the next book. I hope this isn't a spoiler, but I wish Jeff Wheeler had kept us in this final place with Cettie and Sera just a little bit longer. But suspense is not a bad thing in a fantasy, and I will give this one another five stars for his vivid world-building and amazingly intriguing character development.

• I was absolutely riveted, start to finish. I read whole chapters of it out loud to my SO because I felt it was too fascinating not to share. Anyone from a layperson with a passing interest of medical history to a medical professional will appreciate the research, passion and thought put into this book. I enjoyed it so much that as soon as I finished it, I bought two more copies for gifts.
  
  To the reviewers who complained about the lack of pictures Instagram and YouTube are *visual* storytelling mediums. Giving a low star review based on *your* misconception that the book would have images because the authors social media has images is unfair to the author and, quite frankly, childish. Read the book and you will find it very descriptive - no need for artist's interpretation.
• I learned two essential things reading ‘The Butchering Art.’ Society is benefited by the good health of all the individuals within it, and that innovation has been fought by the general population throughout human history. This book casts a light on people in the medical field in the past in a way that makes you understand that each milestone was pivotal. All points of discovery through the scientific method were crucial for new heights of understanding. So thankful for trailblazers like Joseph Lister, who had the courage to question the things accepted as facts in his time. Dr. Fitzharris takes you on a journey of the past that traces the steps through history and outlines why we know what we know about the human body and the world that surrounds us. She marries science with history in a captivating way and undeniably doesn’t spare any of the brutal details. Beautifully written and dark by nature. Definitely a must read for lovers of science and for those who aren’t faint of heart.

  I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this through NetGalley, and seriously, the second I finished it, I went and preordered it. This is one of the best and my favorite books of the year!
  Even though I just read this, I'm already rereading this.
  In short, This book really delves into the Victorian surgery practices and thanks to Joseph Lister, for forever changing what we know about surgery today. Seriously highlighted and now tabbing seems like half of the book. So fascinating and well researched.
  Looking through the hardback copy, there is an index in the back and around 30 pages of notes on where the research came from!
  I would recommend this to anyone interested in medical, history, science, an amazing well-researched biography....ok nevermind-I would recommend this to everyone.
• It didn't take long for me to be sucked right into this book. It only just arrived today and I'm already deep into it finding that I can't put it down! The picture Lindsey Fitzharris paints with her words is inviting and gruesome all at the same time. I have read a few other books of a similar vein and have found most of them to be informational but dry and unentertaining. There are certainly no problems with that here as it is equal parts entertainment and educational. I couldn't recommend it enough!

• I would first of all like to say...thank you!
  I’ve had migraines since I was 5. Yes, I said 5. At 25 I was diagnosed with endometriosis after being on the pill for 9 years. I had the surgery, it didn’t help. In fact it left me in need of a lot of guidance & therapy because my pain was not gone & mentally I went through a lot with the surgery alone. Not only did it take me more than 2 weeks to recover from the surgery to remove the endometriosis cells but I no longer felt like my normal self. Sex was non existent to me. I didn’t want my partner to even touch me. And I still had my endometriosis the very next period so the doctors first suggestion was the pill, again. And after going on it again after coming off for a year & a half, I went crazy. My body rejected it. I told my gyno & she said there was nothing else she could do. I talked to other gynos & their go to was the pill. I didn’t want the pill. I liked who I was mentally & physically without it. I’ve been searching for answers since & this book gives me so many options as far as helping heal myself. I got this book at 3pm & I’m already on chapter 7!!
  
  Very informative & very useful information. I can even google everything supplement wise that Dr suggests for your symptoms & guess what it’s natural & proven to work in a lot of women! And guess what it’s better for your body than the pill or surgery!
• I am a pediatrician and use to prescribe the pill often for my teenage patients. The more I learn of the information that Dr. Brighten includes in her book, the more I realized how much I was not helping my patients. I purchased this book for a family member who had been on the pill for some time. The information she has in the book is truly invaluable and allows us to see clearly the issues with the pill, and if nothing else how to handle the consequences that can come from it. I LOVE this book and will recommending it to many families. I think it is a must read for anyone considering the pill for many reasons.
• Beyond the pill has a lot of really great information that I believe everyone who menstruates should read. I've also read similar books, like finding your root cause, and what I found distracting in beyond the pill was that almost every other paragraph has a shout out to the author's branded supplements or programs. It just felt like an overwhelming ad that I didn't get with similar books. Nonetheless, the information and recipes still make this book worth the time. I also follow the author on Instagram and she's really fun, down to earth, and informative.
• After the birth of my first child, I really felt at a crossroads about whether or not to go back onto birth control. There wasn't a lot of advice out there about the pros and cons of going back onto the pill vs staying off. The medical professionals I spoke with encouraged me to continue birth control. Even though I was a physician myself, I felt really torn because there wasn't a lot of readily available info about how it depleted vital nutrients, decreased libido, etc!!!! I wish this book had existed back then, but I'm so thankful it exists now. Dr. Brighten has written an empowering and insightful guide for women. I will be recommending it to my patients, wholeheartedly.

• Received my book in the mail and spent the past 3 hours flipping through it and reading! I have to say, this is such an incredible resource. I bought the book even though my birth control history is behind me (10 years and counting) because I wanted to better understand my hormones and how I could support more balance in my 30s. The information that I've read so far has provided me better, clearer explanations than any of my OB/GYNs. I like having more "natural" options at my fingertips and also knowing what to ask. • Great book.
• in the Pictures it's showing a full color book and really is black and white
• Book is ok wish it was Laminated so she could wipe it off and go again there isn’t much room to write they can write maybe a few times. There is about 62 pages (I counted them) unsure if I would buy again I feel like it won’t take her long before she is done with this book
• Use a pencil, great to use with beginners or even just to sharpen penmanship. Additonal activities in the back.
• Very helpful and it works. My first graders like this approach to writing numbers.
• My 3 year old didn’t like it as much! Holding on to them for a little while longer. Maybe he will like them when he’s 4 years old.
• 1. Book submitted and received in excellent condition.
  2. Fun, good writing and leaning starter.
  3. I liked the words/sight words chosen - example – Kayak, me, my, make
  4. Blank Practice pages at the back. \ I suggest, photocopying the pages for the child’s practice sessions - practice makes perfect. (If the child does not write in it, you can pass on to another child)
  5. I believe this can also help Parents organize their own practice test
  - please note - there is no number tracing practice..
  When I bought the first one, I was comfortable and purchased another.
• A 2yr old is not coordinated enough for this. Ages 3-5 is probably appropriate.
