Animal researchers commonly present pictures to their subjects, usually birds or monkeys, in order to infer how natural objects are perceived and conceptualised, or to discover the brain mechanisms underlying these abilities. This unique book questions the premise of this experimental approach and asks whether or not pictures can be considered as ecologically valid and realistic stimuli for animals.
Leading researchers in comparative psychology and neuroscience address such questions as "Can animals recognise objects of scenes in pictures despite variations in viewpoints?; "How do animals perceive faces?" and "Is there an equivalence, in animals' minds, between pictures and the objects they represent?". The result is an authoritative and cutting-edge survey of current knowledge in the field, which underlines the advantages, limits and risks of using pictures to infer cognitive abilities or brain mechanisms in animal studies.
Picture Perception in Animals will be essential reading for comparative psychologists, anthropologists, and neuroscientists working in picture perception.

Paul Noble is a genius with a higher IQ than Einstein. Despite this, he still struggled with language learning at school. With Paul Noble, everyone really can speak a language.

Part 2 of the course covers

  • Past tense

Two native-speaking Spanish experts help Paul to deliver the course and to perfect your pronunciation in both Latin American and Iberian Spanish. • Helps you understand the proper way to use the words
  • Great approach to learning a language. There are times when not having access to the appendices or other materials that are included with the CDs is problematic.
  • I really like this program and I have tried 2 others. It's easy to use and I really enjoy it. I am certain, this will make my trip to Mexico much more enjoyable and I am even looking forward to speaking Spanish while on vacation. That wasn't true with the other 2 programs I used.
  • I am terrible with languages but this is a great way to learn.
  • See other review for part 3
  • Awesome, very easy to listen to and learn. Moving on to the next lesson.
  • Easy to use-learning was fun!
  • Excellent!! Highly recommend this program.
One of the best Spanish programs for beginners.

Rich Kid Smart Kid Giving Your Child a Financial Head Start Rich Dad Paperback Robert T Kiyosaki 9781612680606 Books Reviews

  • As a parent and teacher, I find the information in the book apropos to both the state of education and the need for parents to see schools as augmenting what their kids learn rather than the other way around. Having read most of his books, Kiyosaki doesn't necessarily present anything new, but he offers the perspective of mentoring and protecting your child that helps both parent and child see the power in financial freedom.
  • The book seemed excellent ,in real examples of life of the author's life teaches how his parents ,the rich and the poor taught him the value of creating a business of his own ,gives ideas and leaves a sense that we are all capable of performing it, the only thing that we need to invest in learning and if we do will be able to see what many can not do, create business
Thanks to Robert Kiyosaki for taking the time to write something for the young
  • I have read this book more than once and I keep learning each and every time. There is so much inside that helps us, as parents, think and reflect on how to better raise our children's financial intelligence. No magic recipes, as usual in the Rich Dad Poor Dad series, rather a number of suggestions for us to reflect and bring our own conclusions.
  • I listen to a lot of Financial podcasts during daily walks and they have been talking about this book. After hearing more than one recommendation I decided to get it for my son 13.

We have been reading it together and we are both leaving new lessons. I recommend this book.
  • Just buy rich dad poor dad and pass it on to your kids. Too much fluff and repetition...plus a lot of marketing for his other products.
  • This is an excellent book for parents and it's fairly short. A better book on this subject is Kiyosaki's later work, "Why A Students Work for C Students (and B Students Work For The Government)." Parents need to begin now to prepare their children for financial freedom. If you rely on the traditional educational system (both public schools and parochial schools), your children will be taught everything they need to know to make them wage slaves to employers for their entire lives.
  • My eight year old daughter, ten year old son, hubby and I read this book (each separately at our own pace...our 8 year old daughter finished first) on our 2 week vacation in Maui. SO powerful. A new beginning for us as a family to grow our assets and Cashflow! We've been playing the board game Cashflow with our kids for 4 years, and this experience just launched our real life Cashflow game exponentially. Thank you, Robert Kiyosaki & the team of people that make your gifts of financial intelligence tangible for us all.
    We appreciate you!
  • Good read. Worth the time it takes to go over it at least a couple times.

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“The plot provided by the universe was filled with starvation, war and rape. I would not—could not—live in that tale.”

Clemantine Wamariya was six years old when her mother and father began to speak in whispers, when neighbors began to disappear, and when she heard the loud, ugly sounds her brother said were thunder. In 1994, she and her fifteen-year-old sister, Claire, fled the Rwandan massacre and spent the next six years migrating through seven African countries, searching for safety—perpetually hungry, imprisoned and abused, enduring and escaping refugee camps, finding unexpected kindness, witnessing inhuman cruelty. They did not know whether their parents were dead or alive.

When Clemantine was twelve, she and her sister were granted refugee status in the United States; there, in Chicago, their lives diverged. Though their bond remained unbreakable, Claire, who had for so long protected and provided for Clemantine, was a single mother struggling to make ends meet, while Clemantine was taken in by a family who raised her as their own. She seemed to live the American dream attending private school, taking up cheerleading, and, ultimately, graduating from Yale. Yet the years of being treated as less than human, of going hungry and seeing death, could not be erased. She felt at the same time six years old and one hundred years old.

In The Girl Who Smiled Beads, Clemantine provokes us to look beyond the label of “victim” and recognize the power of the imagination to transcend even the most profound injuries and aftershocks. Devastating yet beautiful, and bracingly original, it is a powerful testament to her commitment to constructing a life on her own terms.

"What a book about humanity and inhumanity. This book left me sad, but glad that maybe Clementine was able to understand that young child within herself that was not recognized by the world. The most profound line in the book to me was about the word “genocide” in Rwanda and how people and journalists tied up all those atrocities in one word, and went on their way. When are we going to learn from past mistakes, that no one, no one is better than another. I hope Clementine has made a little peace wth her past. Pass this book on so others read her story."

The Girl Who Smiled Beads A Story of War and What Comes After Clemantine Wamariya Elizabeth Weil 9780451495334 Books Reviews

  • The Girl who Smiled Beads opened up with the story about when the author was reunited with her family (who she had not seen in 12 years) on Oprah. Immediately, I watched the clip of her and her family reuniting and I bawled. It is so heartwarming. It is both happy and sad at the same time, and I was incredibly excited to read the rest of the Girl Who Smiled Beads and hear about Clemantine's Cinderella type story.

But the girl who smiled beads was so impactful and moving because it didn't tell a Cinderella story - it was real and raw and shared that even after Clemantine arrived in the US, it wasn't like her arrival undid the trauma she endured during her childhood escaping the Rwandan genocide. Oftentimes I feel like books carrying such an important, raw and poignant message can be overly dense and boring. But this was anything but that - it was the perfect length and a quick read. I finished it in a day and a half, and was only reading when I had time.

I would definitely recommend this book - it's so important in today's climate.
  • What a book about humanity and inhumanity. Pass this book on so others read her story.
  • Hardly a day goes by without some "human interest" story in the news about those impacted by wars and possible genocide. Most moving in these stories are the pictures of children injured, outside ruined homes, on crowded boats fleeing to hoped for safety. But then, the news moves on, and we never really see what happens to these families after the cameras move on.

The Girl Who Smiled Beads is written by one of those children. Clemantine Wamariya was a pre-schooler when the genocide in Rwanda began. Separated early from her parents and some siblings, she and her teen-aged sister--and soon, that sister's own infants--began a years long trek up and down the African continent away from death and in search of safety. Ultimately, they reached the US. A loving family took Clementine under their wings, and she received an education at the best of suburban schools outside Chicago. While in high school, an essay she wrote comparing her experiences to some of the narrative in Elie Wiesel's Night won her a spot on the Oprah television show. So moved by the story, Oprah's company arranged to have Clementine's parents and siblings flown to New York for a surprise reunion.

This is the Cinderella part of her story, but The Girl Who Smiled Beads provides a far deeper and moving picture of her full experience. There are flashbacks to her life struggling just to find a little clean water for her infant nephew. There is the separate experience of her sister whose life turned out much differently and yet who had grit and persistence few of us would ever be able to generate going through domestic abuse in addition to the life on the run of a refugee. There are honest ruminations of trying to reconcile her life as a suburban teen ager with accepting the now somewhat foreign ways of her more traditional Rwandan parents.

Wamariya openly shares her emotional journey, as she struggles with something like survivor guilt in her years at an exclusive prep school and ultimately Yale, but she also continues to express deep and abiding love for her family, especially that older sister whose strength carried them through the very difficult refugee years.

This is a must-read story for anyone concerned with how the great upheavals of our time are impacting the lives of millions every day. There are times when the story becomes a bit hard to follow, as the author combines narrative of her life in the US with returns to the African journey. However, that may be an asset for us as readers, as it gives perhaps a clearer picture of how someone whose life has been so greatly bifurcated into "before" and "after" might live day to day.

I cannot recommend this enough for all to read and remember every time we see disparaging stories about "refugees" and "immigrants." One can hope that this story might stir more people to begin providing the "kindness of strangers" to others in situations similar to that of all the Wamariyas.
  • What a brave story to write. The telling of this tale was raw and honest, Clemantine’s frustration and anger exposing how little the public understands or can help those who have suffered genocide and were forced to flee their home countries.

The loss of country, family and even belongings (like the precious ceramic mug she is forced to leave behind) she and her sister face is the backdrop to the heroics and ingenuity of an older sister dragging her little sister all across Africa and finally to the US to escape the atrocities of war in Rwanda. The relationship between siblings, parents and foster parents evolves into a heart-wrenching story while we cheer for the twist of fate that changed Clemantine's life and allows her to bring her story to light.

The writing is clear and concise, swiftly moving the story along while building tension in the young protagonist as she tries to understand war and displacement through a child’s eyes. The characters are well-developed and relatable, both the relatives, loving as well as impartial, and the other refugees who helped bolster Clemantine’s spirit along the way.

Clementine’s anger and cynicism comes through strongly and often as she continually pushes others away, feeling they can’t understand her struggle to process the hunger, imprisonment, abuse and inhuman cruelty she has experienced. This hardness and stubbornness carries over into the later stages of her life when we, the readers, are rooting for her to heal and find peace and are not rewarded. While this theme may have been too redundant and off-putting in a fictional work, this is the reality for Clemantine and thus the reader must accept it, uncomfortable or not. And maybe that was her intention all along.
  • Well I was in Rwanda in 1975 and returned in 2017. I visited the genocide museum as well as the hotel milles collines. I had just seen Clementine at a book reading also.i found the book very well written & poignant for the experience she endured with her sister. She provides great insight into the refugee experience. A real first hand account thru the eyes of a 6 year old girl. I do believe she suffers from ptsd. I think her age was what made this so difficult, whereas her sister had more of a skill set to cope with the quickly changing events. Well worth reading..

Silent No More How I Became a Political Prisoner of Mueller"Witch Hunt" Audible Audio Edition Jerome R Corsi PhD Post Hill Press Books Reviews

  • Once again Dr Corsi gives us a great read. This one is full of personal stories and background information even going back to his father's work with the Democrat party and the railroad unions.
Dr Corsi gives us a first person account of his dealing with the Mueller special counsel. After George Papadapolous. Carter Page and General Flynne have dispelled the Russian collusion delusion we know have an in depth detailed day by day personal account of how his own information voluntarily given to the investigation was used against him in a purgery trap. When the prosecuters have printed documents of all your email and phone texts and Verizon refuses to give you print outs of your phone texts you are totally at the mercy of your memory to go against the prosecuters that have every single word you have texted. Needless to say these prosecutors will use anything you have forgotten to tell the world that you have lied to the FBI.
Read the book and decide for yourself. End the witch hunt Mueller is only interested in a set up to impeach President Trump our duly elected leader.
  • Disregard the trolls. Yes, I was surprised at finding misspellings but look past that to the larger meaning because the message of the book is too close to what happens before a communist take-over of a formerly free country. This book is instructive in that it corroborates what happened in License to Lie by Sidney Powell. Federal prosecutors took down and entire company with hundreds of employees (Arthur Anderson) only to have the conviction reversed after it totally destroyed many lives. That is a fact, not a conspiracy. There were several heartbreaking stories that this scenario happened to. And no recourse for the victims because it is the government. Corsi's example is chilling because it has to do with the highest form of constitutionally protected speech - political speech. That is how Corsi makes his living. Expecting a 72 year old to remember a single e-mail out of 65,000 emails two years ago without the benefit of "memory refreshed" is bad. But to use this scenario to create a perjury charge to coerce a false confession consistent with a prosecutor's theory of the case is unconscionable. They brought the full force of the DOJ, FBI and CIA down on Corsi and broke him down for 40 hours of intensive, exhaustive questioning by 3 of Mueller's top prosecutors when Corsi wasn't even charged with a crime. He was a potential witness.
  • Needs proof reading for dates and times and redundant in places but a must read.
My logical conclusion is Seth Rich not the Russians leaked the DNC emails and Mueller"s team is worse than imaginable at trying to prove forgone conclusions.
  • Sure, the book could use a good editor to correct some mistakes. My guess is the digital manuscript was rushed to release. Looking past that this first-hand story reveals an over-zealous prosecutorial effort focused on validation rather than seeking the truth. Mueller's team attempted to negotiate a plea deal to a dubious process crime in order to work their way up the food chain. So far they've failed.

My hope is that Dr. Corsi and his wife stand strong. I admire his courage to honor the truth, and I can't say my memory of events years old would be much better under the grueling circumstances presented in the book.

Dr. Corsi, you're 72 with a weakened heart and feeling vulnerable. But you have expressed a strong faith and a love for our country. I'm confident that no matter what happens the truth will set you free. The American people respect a fighter and underdog so keep believing in us and do what you know is right in your heart. Take the advice of the limo driver when you drove past the NBC interview.
  • Anyone naive enough to believe that government is always here to help MUST read this book. It documents efforts by a consolidation of special interests to cover for the incompetence, chicanery, and outright crimes of who pervert our rights for power and financial gain. What has been happening to Dr. Corsi is unethical, immoral, and quite certainly criminal.

By exposing the intimidation and persecution of innocent Americans by rogue elements of the Department of Justice we are all indebted Dr. Corsi.
  • As I stated once before after reading one of his books,
It is worth reading and every true American should read it.
I think most Americans are believing the lies on the media or just not interested (or even lack the time). Hard to say.
I admire Dr. Corsi and he deserves our back. Read this to learn the truth.
  • Great book and very informative. But for goodness sake, please do some gammar-checking. There are numerous misspellings, punctuation errors, and even a wrong date or two. Example - "Starting October 7, 2018, Assange dropped 57,153 emails in the Podesta file over in thirty-four parts". This meant to say October 7, 2016...not 2018. Little errors like this make the story confusing if you don't realize it is an error. All in all, great read though!
  • It's a great book, the story in itself is scary tough.

Paul A Biography edition by N T Wright Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

  • This exceptional book is the fruit of 40+ years of exceptional scholarship and thought. I am a New Testament professor and this is one of the finest books I’ve read in recent years. It can be appreciated by everyone from the general reader to academic theologian. Do yourself and those you care about a favor read this book and reflect on the rich insights on every page.
  • I read this book in a little over a week, finishing last evening. It is classic N. T. Wright. He attempts to get into the psyche of the former zealous Pharisee to see what made him tick following his Damascus Road experience. Paul comes across as a loveable, but a sometimes prickly defender of God's Covenant People, now extended to include Gentile believers in Jesus. Paul, Wright contends, never left his Jewish roots, but he did understand them now in terms of Jesus as Messiah.

One of his passions was the absolute unity of Jew and Gentile in the one body of Christ with no distinctions between them. He abhorred the idea of two churches, one for Jews and one for Gentiles. The is perfectly aware of the sensibilities of each group but insisted that they respect each other and have full fellowship - down to table fellowship - with each other.

He also maintains that, following the example of Jesus, Paul gave high value to women. He cites the number of women Paul greeted in his salutations to the house churches in Rome, for example, including one whom he recognizes as an "apostle." He argues that Paul is not a misogynist, but that he elevated the place of women in society.

His final summation of the success of Paul's work is priceless. To me, the highlight of the book was in the final chapter. There he contends that Paul;'s emphasis on love and an outward look in the churches he established and nurtured was responsible for Christians establishing hospitals in the 2nd & 3rd centuries, as well as the development of education for a population that was virtually illiterate prior to the work of Paul. Even the technological advance from books on scrolls to codex format he attributes to Paul's extensive use of the Old Testament Scriptures and the consequent need to be able to thumb through instead of scroll through.
  • Wright has knocked it out of the park with this book. There's a lot more than dates and places as Wright digs into the culture and customs in which Paul would have found himself. Many biographers seem to feel that they need to make the subject of their book appear to be a saint. Wright has painted Paul as a human being sometimes kind and loving, sometimes angry, and often coming across as arrogant.
I especially appreciated the way the Wright used Paul's letters to give more insight into Paul the Apostle, and Paul the Man.
This book definitely gives me a new insight into reading and understanding the Pauline letters.
  • Yes, the book is repetitive, as you might expect or have come to expect from someone who writes as much as NTW—repetitive within the book itself and of Wright’s major insights published elsewhere. No, there aren’t biographical bombshells; Wright doesn’t know whether Paul was married, or when and how he died, or whether he went to Spain or wrote Titus. The book takes sides on a few well-established points of debate about Paul’s life, but the sides as well as the debates are well-established. Yes, a fair bit early on, the account shades toward biographical speculation on the one hand (was Saul mystically meditating on the road to Damascus?) and cultural exposition on the other that almost loses track of the individual being biographised.

But this is one of the most inspiring books I’ve read in a long time. The book turns on when Wright ties the themes of individual Pauline epistles to a reconstructed Pauline life behind them. The pathos of 2 Corinthians will never be the same—the account of 2 Corinthians is just where I fell in love with the book. Getting three or four pages on an epistle rather than two hundred seems to clarify and prioritise Wright’s style immensely. I understood much better how it all fits together, and I’ve read a lot of Wright (for instance, if you’re like me and waded through 1500+ pages of Paul and the Faithfulness of God but forgot on p. 1284 what was said on p. 1011, some repetition is a helpful aid to memory).

We need a biography of Paul, and this biography, not to reduce the Pauline epistles to autobiographical source material, but to reconstruct how the man lived out his own Christ-shaped theology and ethics, and to sense from that how we might. When Paul was alive, it wasn’t obvious who Christ was (or would be to believers in a mainstream or orthodox Christianity), or what it would be like to follow Him. The drama of Paul’s life is to see that meaning of a Christlike life contested in one of the first and most important Christlike lives. Christians have been living off the victories and clarities won in and through Paul ever since.
  • Absolutely amazing!! I greatly appreciate Mr. Wright's work and have been following, thinking, and praying about the things in which I read of his. This book is outstanding and well worth the read. I am a Minister and ALWAYS love "subtext" if you will. Just below the surface of the text where all the wonderful gems of truth are. Just waiting to be discovered and I believe Wright does a marvelous job of unearthing it. I recommend the book!
